The Insulation Installation Process
We aim to make the insulation installation process as seamless as possible.
We will first provide a quote for the job, which generally involves a free, no obligation site visit to allow us to assess the property. Understanding your needs, if there’s any particular areas you’d like to improve, and then an inspection of the property allows us to recommend the most efficient and cost effective solution.
We will take into account factors that impact thermal efficiency such as the house orientation and what areas are most affected by sun and when, your main living areas, the build of the house (IE brick veneer), how many and sizes of windows, the state of the existing insulation, and provide a recommendation and quote based off of that. The quote usually takes between 30-45 minutes.
Once the quote is accepted, we’ll undertake a check measure where we gather more specific information for the job such as the total area to insulate, the state of the existing materials to be removed, and whether there are any visible existing services like electrical, plumbing or gas that may impact the job. From there we will book in an installation date.

The insulation installation process is fairly straightforward, and we aim to minimise any disruptions we can. The installation process will normally take between 1-3 days depending on the size and complexity of the job, but we’ll advise when we book the job in.
On installation day we generally only need access through the roof itself, and will remove (and replace) tiles or roofing sheets to provide access in and out of the roof cavity. Old insulation can be quite dusty and this reduces the chances of dust spreading. Where the existing insulation is batts, we will bag and remove the batts in the ceiling through the access holes, and ensure a clean surface for the new batts. For blow in type insulation, we use a specialised vacuum to remove it and provide a clean surface to work on.
Once we have a clean surface, it’s time to install the new insulation batts. The Bradford batts we use are made for Australian conditions and building codes, so installation is generally an efficient process. We understand the importance of a careful, well sized installation, and take time to ensure all batts are cut to the correct sizes to minimise any gaps – a 5% gap can give a 50% loss in the efficiency of the batts, so it’s important to choose installers like Place Your Batts who’ll take their time to make sure your investment is as efficient as possible.
